Pakistan to Establish National Counter Narcotics Coordination Centre at ANF Headquarters
Unified Response to Drug Trafficking Pakistan is setting up the National Counter Narcotics Coordination Centre (NCNC2) at the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Headquarters in Rawalpindi. This initiative, supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), aims to unify the efforts of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and develop a coordinated national strategy against drug trafficking.
Workshops to Build Institutional Synergy A five-day workshop titled “Establishing Coordination Mechanisms to Counter Drug Trafficking” kicked off with participation from national and international stakeholders. Keynote speakers included:
- Major General Abdul Moeed HI(M) – Chairman IATF and DG ANF
- Troels Vester – UNODC Country Representative
- Dr. Lyn Nelson – Director INL Pakistan
They emphasized the urgency of collaborative action and stronger institutional frameworks to combat narcotics at both national and regional levels.
Focus on Data Sharing and Case Management Brigadier Syed Imran Ali, Secretary IATF and Director Enforcement ANF, highlighted the importance of robust data sharing among law enforcement agencies. Presentations from various departments focused on improving analytical capabilities, case management systems, and inter-agency collaboration.
Recent ANF Operations and Arrests Coinciding with the workshop, ANF conducted three major drug seizures, arresting five individuals and recovering 14 kilograms of narcotics worth over Rs3.7 million. Notable incidents included:
- 200 grams of hashish seized near Hattar Road, Haripur, from a suspect supplying drugs to students
- 12 kilograms of hashish found in a truck near Sarwar Shaheed Toll Plaza
- 2 kilograms of heroin recovered from two suspects on a motorcycle near a hospital on Link Road, Lahore

Conclusion: A National Framework for Drug Control The establishment of NCNC2 marks a pivotal step in Pakistan’s fight against narcotics. By integrating intelligence, operations, and policy under one roof, the country is poised to deliver a more systematic, intelligence-driven, and collaborative response to drug trafficking.
