French Basketball Star Nando de Colo Considers Retirement
Nando de Colo, the esteemed French guard, indicated on Monday that the 2025–26 season could potentially mark the conclusion of his illustrious career, according to reports released on Tuesday by international media outlets.
The 38-year-old athlete has distinguished himself in the EuroLeague through a series of remarkable performances, solidifying his status as a basketball icon. However, this year might be the last opportunity to witness his exceptional talent on the court.
De Colo currently holds the position of second all-time highest scorer in EuroLeague history, amassing a total of 4,849 points. Additionally, he leads the league in Performance Index Rating (PIR), with an impressive score of 5,473.
His accomplishments include securing the EuroLeague MVP award in 2016 and twice hoisting the EuroLeague trophy, thereby cementing his enduring legacy in European basketball.
In a recent interview conducted on Monday, De Colo suggested the possibility of this season being his swan song.
De Colo’s Remarks
“To be honest, is this my last year… maybe,” De Colo admitted.
“My contract with ASVEL is nearing its end; I’ve been a part of this organization for four years. My focus has always been on stable projects, which hasn’t been the case here necessarily.
“I am trying to stay present, relish every moment, but in the back of my mind, I know this could be the last season. Time will tell how things unfold.”
The basketball legend’s achievements extend to international competitions, including two Olympic silver medals, a bronze medal at the 2019 World Cup, and three EuroBasket medals, highlighted by a gold medal in 2013 with the French national team.
From 2012 to 2014, De Colo also gained experience in the NBA, playing for both the San Antonio Spurs and the Toronto Raptors.
