Mitchell Owen Determined to Maintain Aggressive Batting Approach

The series between Australia and South Africa is set to commence with T20 Internationals on August 10.

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Owen has affirmed his commitment to aggressive cricket, stating he has no intention of altering his attacking batting style.

Speaking to the media, Owen highlighted his dedication to the mindset that has fueled his achievements.

“Whether I’m opening or batting lower down the order, my approach remains consistent,” Owen stated.

“I aim to strike the ball. Defensive thinking hinders my performance. Therefore, I’ll maintain my current mindset.”

Owen is anticipated to be in the middle order should he debut in ODIs, potentially filling the finisher role previously held by Maxwell.

Reflecting on the demanding schedule, Owen acknowledged that the experience has provided him with valuable insights on preparation.

“I’ve refined my preparation methods due to the condensed training periods. Being ready every few days is crucial,” Owen noted.

“Exposure to varying conditions in Pakistan, India, the U.S., and the West Indies has enriched my experience.”

The 23-year-old showcased his big-hitting prowess against the West Indies, scoring 50, 36, two, and 37 at a strike rate of 192.30 batting at number six. He has been included in Australia’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match home series against South Africa.

These matches against South Africa mark Australia’s first in the format following the retirements of Steven Smith and Glenn Maxwell from one-day cricket.

The T20I series between Australia and South Africa begins with the first two matches in Darwin on August 10 and 12, followed by the final match in Cairns on August 16.

The ODI series commences on August 19 with the first match in Cairns, concluding with two matches in Mackay on August 22 and 24.
