Brewers on the Verge After Victory Over Cubs
MILWAUKEE: In his first postseason appearance, rookie pitcher Jacob Misiorowski shone brightly, guiding the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-3 triumph over the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of the National League Division Series at American Family Field on Monday.
Misiorowski entered the game from the bullpen and pitched three scoreless innings, demonstrating excellent command with four strikeouts and reaching speeds of 104.3 mph. This performance came after a difficult end to the regular season.
Despite the Brewers falling behind 3-0 in the opening inning, the 23-year-old helped stabilize the game, conceding only one hit during his time on the mound.
Seiya Suzuki’s three-run home run initially provided the Cubs with a lead, but Milwaukee quickly countered. Andrew Vaughn responded in the bottom of the first with a three-run homer of his own, leveling the score with two outs.
Jackson Chourio then broke the tie in the fourth inning with a three-run homer, while William Contreras had earlier contributed a solo home run in the third, giving the Brewers a significant advantage.
Chourio, whose participation was uncertain before the game due to a hamstring concern, made a noteworthy comeback. His pivotal hit was made possible by Joey Ortiz and Caleb Durbin, who was hit by a pitch for the 25th time this season.
The Brewers’ bullpen combined to pitch 7⅓ scoreless innings, restricting the Cubs to just one hit after the second inning.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell acknowledged his team’s failure to maintain their early advantage.
“Allowing two three-run homers after having a strong start really put us in a difficult position,” Counsell stated. “Giving up multiple runs with runners on base is something we need to avoid in playoff games. It proved too much to overcome.”
Game 3 is slated for Wednesday in Chicago, where Milwaukee will aim to secure the one victory needed to progress to the subsequent round.
