Cubs’ Matthew Boyd Scheduled to Face Nationals’ MacKenzie Gore on Wednesday
WASHINGTON: In a Major League Baseball (MLB) game held at Nationals Park on Tuesday, Michael Busch delivered an outstanding display, contributing significantly to the Chicago Cubs’ 8-3 triumph over the Washington Nationals.
This victory signifies the Chicago Cubs’ fourth consecutive win, marking their 13th victory in the last 16 games. Conversely, Washington has suffered two successive losses after previously securing four straight wins.
Michael Busch nearly achieved a cycle, going three-for-four with a walk, three RBIs, and scoring twice for the Cubs.
Nico Hoerner’s single drove in two runners, capping off a four-run fifth inning that propelled the Cubs to a 7-3 advantage. Dansby Swanson also made a contribution with two sacrifice flies, helping Chicago secure the win.
Cade Horton started on the mound for the Cubs, pitching five and one-third innings, conceding three runs on six hits, issuing one walk, and recording three strikeouts.
Luis Garcia Jr. tallied three hits for Washington, who initially led 1-0 and 3-1, while CJ Abrams also drove in a run.
Busch managed two hits against pitcher Trevor Williams (3-6), which included a triple and a single. He also walked against Andrew Chafin and hit a solo home run off Zach Brzykcy in the seventh inning.
Nationals’ starting pitcher Williams allowed five runs on five hits, issued one walk, and recorded four strikeouts.
Looking ahead, Chicago left-hander Matthew Boyd (5-2, 3.08 ERA) is set to face Washington left-hander MacKenzie Gore (2-5, 3.16) on Wednesday in the second game of the series.
