Mbappe and Mendy Unlikely for Getafe Clash, Eyeing Barcelona Final
MADRID: Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, indicated on Tuesday that star forward Kylian Mbappe is expected to be back in action for the Copa del Rey final versus Barcelona.
Mbappe was absent from Madrid’s recent La Liga match, a 1-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao, due to an ankle injury. This injury occurred during the team’s Champions League exit at the hands of Arsenal.
Ancelotti provided an update on Tuesday, mentioning that Mbappe, in addition to defender Ferland Mendy, who is being treated for a hamstring issue, will resume training.
“(Mbappe and Mendy) will not be available for the match tomorrow, but they will be training in the coming days, and I anticipate that both will be ready for Saturday’s match,” Ancelotti stated.
“The lineup for tomorrow will be determined by considering the fatigue from Sunday night’s game (the 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao). Some players are still experiencing tiredness, which is understandable. We will assess the situation tomorrow.
“Getafe plays with intensity and is well-organized, with a clear approach. We are prepared. As the season nears its conclusion, each match becomes increasingly crucial.”
Ancelotti expressed empathy for Mbappe, noting that ‘Mbappe is experiencing discomfort due to his injury.’
“Mbappe is struggling because of his injury, preventing him from assisting the team – he is exerting every effort to be prepared for Saturday.”
There is uncertainty surrounding Ancelotti’s future with Madrid after their Champions League elimination, and it has been suggested that the Italian manager may depart from the club at the end of the season.
Xabi Alonso, the coach of Bayer Leverkusen, and Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager, are reportedly leading candidates to succeed Ancelotti.
