Flagg Hails Chance to Join Hall of Fame Caliber Mavericks
DALLAS: The Dallas Mavericks selected Cooper Flagg as the top overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday.
Flagg, a Duke University forward, is celebrated for his exceptional two-way abilities, court awareness, and remarkable basketball acumen. He has been likened to NBA legends due to his intense defense and versatile offense.
Flagg voiced his enthusiasm about becoming a Maverick, noting the extraordinary opportunity to be around players of Hall of Fame stature. He underscored his gratitude and eagerness to gain knowledge from the team’s seasoned players.
“I’m genuinely thrilled. I believe I keep mentioning my eagerness to absorb information, to integrate myself and simply learn, to be among Hall of Fame-caliber individuals and have the chance to learn from them,” Flagg stated.
“This promises to be an unforgettable experience. I’m deeply grateful for the position I’m in.”
The Mavericks faced a mere 1.8 percent likelihood of securing the top pick in the NBA Draft Lottery, but a stroke of luck enabled them to draft Flagg.
Flagg opted to reclassify, allowing him to graduate high school and enter college a year ahead of schedule. Mavericks GM Nico Harrison highlighted Flagg’s two-way capabilities as his most valuable attribute.
“I believe his most significant quality is his ability to contribute on both ends of the court,” Harrison commented.
“Observing him play reveals his unwavering effort. When you encounter a player of his caliber, and discussions revolve around intangible qualities rather than mere basketball skills, you’ve identified someone who will positively impact your team’s culture.”
