Firefighters Injured Battling Factory Blaze in Karachi

This past Tuesday morning, a significant fire at a three-story manufacturing facility in New Karachi’s industrial zone resulted in injuries to at least eight firefighters.

According to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Chief Fire Officer, Muhammad Humayun, the conflagration was reportedly started by a substantial explosion, which also led to the factory’s structural failure.

The blast led to widespread disorder in the vicinity, prompting the commencement of immediate emergency response measures.

He voiced concerns regarding the degree of destruction, noting that the building’s collapse represented a major setback.

The intense blaze, which predated the explosion, further impeded rescue attempts, complicating access to the location for emergency personnel, the officer noted.

The underlying cause of the explosion is still under formal investigation, and officials are prioritizing efforts to find any potentially trapped employees with utmost urgency.

Fire brigade representatives indicated that the conflagration was brought under control through the deployment of eight fire engines. They further stated that the precise origin of the fire remains undetermined.

The medical superintendent of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital verified that eight firefighters had been admitted with burn-related injuries, noting that four individuals in critical condition were transferred to the trauma center at Civil Hospital, while two others were taken to a private medical facility in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

The medical superintendent also indicated that two of those injured continue to receive treatment at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassan Ahmed stated that preliminary findings suggest a short circuit as the potential ignition source. He further added that the factory premises contained dyeing agents and clothing items; however, no individuals were inside the building at the time the fire started.
