Lopez Shines as Marlins Triumph Over Diamondbacks in Thrilling Encounter

PHOENIX: In a captivating MLB game held at Chase Field on Friday, Kyle Stowers delivered two RBIs and scored a run, while Otto Lopez contributed a double, a run, and three RBIs, leading the Miami Marlins to a narrow 9–8 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Lopez emerged as the game’s star, stretching his hitting streak to eight games. During this period, he has maintained an impressive .469 batting average and has driven in 10 runs.

Stowers further bolstered the score in the sixth inning, maintaining his steady performance after a previous game where he achieved both a home run and a double.

Heriberto Hernandez added a solo home run, and Connor Norby recorded two hits and scored twice.

The Marlins broke a six-game losing streak against Arizona dating back to 2024 and improved their record against the Diamondbacks to 10–4 for the season.

Arizona initiated the scoring in the third inning, with Alek Thomas hitting a sacrifice fly. Jake McCarthy, Geraldo Perdomo, and Thomas each contributed home runs for the Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks staged a late comeback, scoring three runs in the ninth inning, but Tyler Phillips secured the win by forcing a game-ending double play with runners on first and third.

Marlins’ starting pitcher Eury Pérez pitched four-plus innings, allowing three runs before being replaced by Ronny Henriquez, who conceded one run in 1 1/3 innings. Merrill Kelly (7–4) suffered the defeat, allowing five runs over five-plus innings.

Arizona’s Josh Naylor left the game in the seventh inning due to experiencing neck discomfort, according to manager Torey Lovullo.

Miami has now achieved a season-high of five consecutive wins and has won six of their last seven games.

Marlins’ star Sandy Alcantara is scheduled to face Diamondbacks’ pitcher Brandon Pfaadt in Saturday’s game.
