Mariners Complete Series Sweep with Walk-Off Win
SEATTLE: The Seattle Mariners triumphed over the Chicago White Sox with a 4-3 victory at T-Mobile Park on Thursday, securing a series sweep, thanks to Dominic Canzone’s single in the 11th inning.
Eugenio Suarez was instrumental in the victory, as he scored the decisive run on Canzone’s one-out hit to right field against Brandon Eisert. This crucial play happened after Mitch Garver was intentionally walked.
The Mariners have now won six of their seven games during their current ten-game stretch at home. Randy Arozarena contributed early on with a two-run home run in the third inning, marking his 23rd of the season and a career best.
Chicago responded with solo home runs from Michael A. Taylor in the fifth and Brooks Baldwin in the seventh, tying the game at 2-2.
The game extended into extra innings, with both teams scoring in the 10th. The White Sox briefly took the lead when Lenyn Sosa scored on a wild pitch delivered by Eduard Bazardo.
Seattle quickly equalized when Arozarena scored from second base following a throwing error by Josh Rojas during Miles Mastrobuoni’s bunt attempt.
Logan Gilbert, the Mariners’ starter, recorded six strikeouts in five innings, allowing only one run on two hits. Chicago’s rookie, Shane Smith, also performed well, striking out eight and giving up two runs in five innings.
Reliever Jackson Kowar (2-0) pitched a flawless top of the 11th, securing the win for Seattle.
Josh Naylor, the first baseman, exited the game early due to shoulder discomfort and is currently listed as day-to-day.
The White Sox will now travel to face the Cleveland Guardians, while the Mariners will commence a weekend series at home on Friday.
