Magic Ink Deal with Johnell Davis
The Orlando Magic have bolstered their roster by signing Johnell Davis, an undrafted guard from Arkansas. In a corresponding move, they waived small forward Justin Minaya, bringing the team’s total to 21 players. The announcement was made Sunday night.
Specifics of the agreement with Davis were not disclosed by the Magic. However, it is understood that he has signed a one-year Exhibit 10 contract, which is non-guaranteed. This deal allows the team to convert it into a two-way contract with their G League affiliate, the Osceola Magic, prior to the commencement of the regular season.
Minaya, aged 26, participated in 57 games (with one start) for the Portland Trail Blazers over the last three seasons. During the 2024-25 season, he played in 19 games, averaging 1.7 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 10.0 minutes per game.
He spent the majority of the previous season in the G League and subsequently joined Orlando as a free agent on September 2.
Davis, 24, concluded his college career at Arkansas in 2024-25, starting in 29 of 34 games. He averaged 12.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.4 steals, and played an average of 31.7 minutes per game.
Prior to Arkansas, he played four seasons at Florida Atlantic University (2020-24), where he recorded career averages of 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and 22.9 minutes across 128 games, starting in 53 of them.
Davis was recognized as an American Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year in 2023-24 and previously earned the C-USA Sixth Man of the Year award and First-Team All-Conference USA honors in the 2022-23 season.
The Magic’s decision to bring Davis into camp is aimed at enhancing their perimeter options while maintaining flexibility with the roster.
This acquisition also demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to nurturing young talent with potential for long-term growth.
