Quansah Joins Bayer Leverkusen on Five-Year Deal
Bayer Leverkusen has secured the signature of England Under-21 international Jarell Quansah from Liverpool. The Premier League club has agreed to terms with Quansah on a contract spanning five years, the club officially announced Wednesday.
While the specific financial details remain undisclosed, media outlets estimate the transfer fee to reach up to 35 million pounds. This sum includes a base fee in addition to a potential 5 million pounds contingent on performance-related add-ons.
The defender marked his first-team debut during the 2023-24 campaign, amassing 58 appearances across all competitions for the Merseyside team.
Quansah’s contributions extended to the international stage, where he represented England in the Under-21 European Championship victory earlier this year under the guidance of Lee Carsley.
This transfer represents the third transaction between the two clubs this summer. Previously, Leverkusen parted ways with Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong and German international Florian Wirtz, both of whom were acquired by Liverpool. Wirtz’s transfer last month involved a fee of 100 million pounds, supplemented by a possible 16 million pounds in bonus payments.
Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen’s Sporting Director, conveyed his enthusiasm in a statement, highlighting Quansah’s reputation as a top-tier centre-back.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jarell Quansah, recognized as one of England’s most promising centre-backs. His attributes include speed, agility, and proficient footballing skills,” Rolfes stated.
“Jarell’s arrival injects our defence with significant dynamism, speed, and tackling strength. He stands as another crucial element in our long-term plans.”
Leverkusen concluded their Bundesliga season in second place, trailing behind Bayern Munich. In May, they appointed former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as their head coach, succeeding Xabi Alonso, who now manages Real Madrid.
