Liverpool to Honor Jota with Jersey Emblem and Moment of Silence

Liverpool Football Club announced Saturday that its players will wear a ‘Forever 20’ badge on their jerseys and stadium jackets throughout the upcoming Premier League season. This tribute commemorates former forward Diogo Jota, who tragically died earlier in July.

Reports indicate that a minute of silence will be observed before Liverpool’s opening match against Bournemouth on August 15 at Anfield. This will allow fans an opportunity to honor the esteemed player.

Since the sorrowful news of Jota’s passing, numerous tributes have been placed outside Anfield. Supporters, along with family and friends, have left flowers, scarves, banners, and personal messages in memory of the Portuguese star and his brother, Andre Silva, who also perished in the accident.

Adding to the displays of remembrance, a notable new mural of Jota has been created near Anfield by the well-known artist John Culshaw.

The mural features Jota smiling and making a heart shape with his hands, a gesture that symbolized his connection with the sport and the supporters. Culshaw commented on the tribute, stating:

“As Liverpool fans, we understand how to pay respect to someone who enriched our experience. I chose this image because it captures Jota expressing his affection for the fans.”

Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, passed away on July 3, 2025, following a car accident near Zamora, Spain. Reports suggest that the vehicle veered off course and caught fire, leaving no chance of survival. Jota was 28 years old.

The former Wolves forward joined Liverpool in 2020 and quickly gained popularity among fans, making significant contributions with crucial goals in both domestic and European competitions.
