Isak Secures Record-Breaking Premier League Transfer

Alexander Isak has officially joined Liverpool from Newcastle United, signing a long-term contract after successfully completing his medical assessment on deadline day. This agreement marks a new British record deal, according to reports from international media outlets.

Newcastle accepted a bid of £125 million ($170 million) for the Swedish international on Monday, having previously turned down an offer of £110 million plus additional incentives earlier in the month.

Isak’s contract with Liverpool spans six years, and he will don the No. 9 jersey for the team.

The Swedish forward’s transfer now stands as the most expensive signing in Premier League history, exceeding Chelsea’s acquisition of Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion for £115m during the summer of 2023.

Following the completion of the agreement at the AXA Training Centre, Isak conveyed his excitement about joining Liverpool, expressing his eagerness to resume training and meet his new teammates and the fans.

“I feel amazing. The journey to get here has been extensive. However, I am incredibly happy to be a part of this team, this club, and all that it symbolizes. It’s a source of pride for me, and I’m really enthusiastic about what’s to come,” Isak stated.

“I’m just happy it’s finalized, allowing me to get back to work. I’m eager to meet my teammates and the fans, and to get back on the field.”

The deal concludes a prolonged summer transfer period during which Alexander Isak reportedly sought a move away from Newcastle for over a month.

Isak has not participated in any of Newcastle’s matches this season and had been training separately amid speculation about his transfer to Liverpool. He was also absent from Eddie Howe’s squad during their pre-season tour.

The Sweden international, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £60m, scored 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions last season.
