Norris Reflects on Season Goals Amidst Piastri’s Rise

Lando Norris, the British Formula One driver, remarked on Thursday that failing to secure his first world title this season would not be deemed a failure.

While Norris began the season as a frontrunner for the championship, his younger teammate, Oscar Piastri, has since overtaken him, claiming five victories compared to Norris’s three.

The competition now appears to be primarily between Piastri and Max Verstappen, with Verstappen trailing Norris by 46 points.

Norris acknowledged that he hasn’t met his initial aspirations for the season but refrains from labeling it a failure. He expressed personal disappointment, suggesting he could have performed at a higher level.

“I would say I didn’t achieve my objective, but I don’t think it qualifies as a failure because I don’t see it that way,” Norris stated.

Personal Reflections

“I feel that I just didn’t quite reach the standard I believed I was capable of, or the level I should have been at certain times.” He posited that missing a target might be more clearly a failure in different circumstances.

“If things were straightforward and the goal isn’t met, it could be considered a failure. However, with 24 races in a long season against top competitors, it’s hard to call it a failure. Perhaps, just not a success,” Norris concluded.

Despite some errors in qualifying and races, Norris dominated the Spielberg weekend, successfully defending against a sustained challenge from his teammate throughout the race.
