Pakistan Intensifies Crackdown on Beggar Gangs in Saudi Arabia

Islamabad: In a decisive move, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Sunday that the government is accelerating efforts to eliminate Pakistani beggar groups operating in Saudi Arabia, addressing concerns about the country’s image abroad.

During a meeting at the Saudi Embassy with Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmed Al-Malki, the minister stated that updated passport regulations will soon be implemented to tackle the growing problem of unlawful immigration and control the proliferation of begging syndicates overseas.

The minister conveyed that the operation targeting Pakistani beggars in Saudi Arabia, with the goal of dismantling structured networks damaging Pakistan’s reputation, is already underway.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to combating international crime, emphasizing the importance of countering drug trafficking and human smuggling.

Naqvi conveyed Pakistan’s eagerness to collaborate closely with Saudi Arabia to overcome these increasing challenges.

Naqvi also highlighted the robust and amicable relations between Islamabad and Riyadh, noting that Saudi citizens benefit from visa-free travel to Pakistan, which exemplifies the strong bond between the two countries.

He added, “Saudi citizens are welcome to visit Pakistan at any time without restrictions.”

Both parties affirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in essential areas, including security, economic progress, and community well-being.

Naqvi expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its continuous assistance in supporting Pakistan’s economic stability and social advancement, as well as its significant participation in the recent Pak-Gulf Cooperation Council Anti-Narcotics conference.

He especially acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s vital role in ensuring the secure release and return of five Pakistani family members who were wrongly implicated in a drug-related case.

He stated, “The innocent family was able to return home safely because of Saudi Arabia’s involvement.”

Ambassador Al-Malki restated Saudi Arabia’s steadfast dedication to Pakistan and voiced his desire to enhance cooperation across all sectors.
