KP’s New Partnership to Improve Primary Healthcare Services

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has taken a major step toward strengthening its healthcare system by signing an agreement with Greenstar Social Marketing Pakistan under the Primary Health Care Reforms Project.

The collaboration aims to revitalize Basic Health Units (BHUs) across the province, addressing long‑standing challenges such as shortages of medical staff and gaps in service quality. By deploying trained professionals to selected facilities, the project seeks to ensure that communities have reliable access to essential healthcare services.

The signing ceremony was held at the Health Secretariat in Peshawar, attended by Provincial Health Minister Khaliq‑ur‑Rehman, Secretary Health Shahidullah Khan, senior officials, and Greenstar management. The agreement was formally signed by Dr. Syed Aziz‑ur‑Rehman, CEO of Greenstar Social Marketing Pakistan, and Dr. Ikramullah Khan, Project Director of the Primary Health Care Reforms Project.

Minister Khaliq‑ur‑Rehman described the partnership as a milestone in reinforcing the provincial health system, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering high‑quality primary healthcare to the people of KP. Officials emphasized that the initiative will not only improve service standards but also enhance efficiency and accountability in healthcare delivery.

By leveraging public‑private collaboration, the project is expected to create a more sustainable and responsive healthcare framework. This includes better staffing, improved patient care, and stronger oversight of medical facilities.

The agreement reflects KP’s broader vision of modernizing its healthcare system, ensuring that primary healthcare becomes the backbone of service delivery. With this partnership, the province is positioning itself to meet growing health demands while building trust among communities.
