The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Food Testing Laboratory in Peshawar, designed to elevate food quality standards, support local producers, and safeguard consumer health.

Equipped with advanced tools for microbiological, chemical, and pesticide residue analysis, the new facility aims to ensure that food products across the province meet both national and international safety benchmarks. This move is expected to bolster agricultural export compliance, enabling farmers and processors to compete in global markets with confidence.

Government officials highlighted that the lab will serve as a regional benchmark for food safety, offering testing services at subsidized rates, including services previously limited to private sector labs. The laboratory also supports the opportunity for public-private partnerships, as well as training programs for food analysts and lab technicians.

The facility is intended to address widespread concerns over adulterated food, pesticide misuse, and counterfeit consumables. By improving monitoring and enforcement, authorities aim to protect public health and restore consumer trust.

Through this initiative, KP is taking a significant step toward institutionalizing food safety governance, establishing modern quality control infrastructure, and promoting food sector resilience across the province.
