Mixed Trends in Peshawar’s Kitchen Item Prices
A recent market survey in Peshawar revealed a mixed trend in the prices of essential kitchen commodities, including live chicken/meat, sugar, flour, vegetables, cooking oil/ghee, and pulses.
Poultry and Eggs
The price of live chicken saw an increase, reaching Rs405/kg from Rs395/kg, marking a Rs10/kg rise in the open market. Conversely, farm eggs experienced a price drop, now available at Rs240/dozen compared to the previous Rs260/dozen.
Meat Prices and Butcher Practices
Butchers are reportedly disregarding official price lists, charging consumers inflated rates. Cow meat is being sold at Rs1100/kg, exceeding the administration’s fixed price of Rs800-900/kg. Boneless meat is priced at Rs1300/kg, and mutton has climbed to Rs2500/kg.
Cooking Oil and Ghee
The survey indicated a slight increase in the prices of various cooking oil and ghee brands.
Sugar Prices Decline
Sugar prices have decreased, with one kilogram now available at Rs145/kg, a reduction of Rs20/kg from the previous Rs165/kg.
Vegetable Price Fluctuations
Tomato prices have fallen to Rs50-70/kg from Rs100/kg. Onion prices have also decreased, selling at Rs70-80/kg compared to Rs100/kg the previous week, though some retailers are imposing their own prices. Ginger remained at Rs800/kg, and garlic ranged from Rs400 to Rs600/kg. Green chilies were priced at Rs120/kg.
Other Vegetables
Prices for other vegetables remained elevated. Peas were sold for Rs100-120/kg (previously Rs150/kg), capsicum at Rs100/kg, ladyfinger at Rs80/kg, curry at Rs70/kg, and Kachalu at Rs150-200/kg. Turnip cost Rs120/kg, eggplant (bringle) Rs100/kg, zucchini (tori) Rs100/kg, and Tinda Rs100/kg. Lemon was being sold at Rs200/kg. Arvi ranged from Rs100-120/kg, cabbage at Rs100/kg, red potatoes at Rs70/kg, and white potatoes at Rs50/kg.
