Karachi Weather Forecast: Drizzle and High Humidity Expected

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated that Karachi is expected to experience scattered drizzle and light showers during the morning and evening hours today (Monday). The forecast suggests persistent humid and cloudy conditions for the next 24 hours.

The daytime high is anticipated to range from 33°C to 35°C, with the previous day’s minimum temperature recorded at 29°C. The PMD noted significant humidity, with moisture levels at 78%.

A gentle sea breeze, blowing at approximately 11 kilometres per hour, is providing some relief from the prevailing sultry weather. The cloud cover and occasional drizzle may offer temporary respite to Karachi residents dealing with the humid conditions.

Unlike some other regions of the country experiencing heavy downpours, no substantial rainfall is predicted for Karachi. The Met Office has issued a nationwide rainfall forecast lasting until July 17 due to the current monsoon spell.

Forecasts suggest increasing moist currents beginning July 13 (Sunday), accompanied by an approaching westerly wave that evening. These conditions have already led to widespread rain, wind, and thunderstorms, including intermittent heavy rainfall in various regions.

The PMD has issued warnings about the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall to cause flash flooding in local streams and nullahs located in several areas from July 14 to 17. Furthermore, low-lying areas in major cities face the risk of urban flooding between July 13 and 17.

The Met Office also cautioned that hilly areas may encounter landslides or mudslides, potentially leading to road closures. Strong winds and lightning could also cause damage to vulnerable structures, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

The PMD has advised farmers to adjust their activities accordingly and urged travellers and tourists to avoid unnecessary trips to vulnerable areas. All relevant departments have been directed to maintain vigilance and implement precautionary measures to minimize potential risks.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert for July 13-17, cautioning about heavy monsoon rains and potential flooding in numerous regions throughout Pakistan.

The expected rainfall, fueled by moisture from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea along with a westerly wave, might elevate water levels in major rivers. Medium flood levels are anticipated, with the possibility of flooding in tributaries and hill torrents.

Residents residing near rivers and streams are advised to remain vigilant, prepare emergency supplies, and avoid crossing flooded areas. District authorities are encouraged to prepare for urban flooding events, and the public is advised to stay informed through official alerts and updates provided by NDMA channels.
