Sinner Set to Clash with Mannarino in Upcoming Round

Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked player, advanced to the round of 16 at the Cincinnati Open, held at the P&G Centre Court on Monday, by defeating Canadian player Gabriel Diallo with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).

An unexpected fire alarm caused a brief disruption during the second game of the second set, complete with flashing lights and sound. However, following a short intermission, both athletes chose to resume the match.

Sinner maintained his composure, demonstrating a strong desire to secure the victory. He asserted control early, effectively silencing Diallo and clinching the first set with a score of 6-2.

Despite Diallo’s aggressive play upon his return, he couldn’t overcome Sinner’s skill. Sinner concluded the match decisively, securing his spot in the fourth round with a convincing win.

The Italian competitor has now extended his winning record on hard courts to an impressive 23 matches.

Following his victory, Sinner acknowledged the match’s difficulty, noting the challenges he faced against Diallo’s powerful serves. He stated the importance of engaging in demanding matches like this one in preparation for the US Open.

Sinner’s Post-Match Comments

“It was a very difficult day at the office,” Sinner remarked.

“You have to find the balance against these big servers. I struggled with that at times today.

“But I need tough matches like this, I’m happy I got one before the [US Open] Grand Slam.”

Sinner’s next challenge will be against French qualifier Adrian Mannarino on Tuesday.

Notably, the four-time Grand Slam champion has already secured victories at the Australian Open and Wimbledon earlier this year.
