Pakistan Secures $700 Million in IT Investment Pledges
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan has garnered approximately $700 million in new foreign investment commitments for its information technology sector. He encouraged global stakeholders to continue supporting the nation’s aspirations to become a prominent player in the global digital arena.
Addressing the Digital Foreign Direct Investment (DFDI-2025) event, Sharif emphasized that Pakistan is actively shaping the future, highlighting the country’s young population and expanding digital infrastructure as crucial strengths.
The conference attracted leading tech figures, global investors, and innovation experts, marking what officials hailed as a significant milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation journey.
PM Highlights 23% Growth in IT Exports
Sharif assured that every possible facilitation would be extended to investors within Pakistan’s IT domain, as he welcomed tech representatives from 11 friendly nations.
Sharif stated that a fresh wave of young Pakistanis, proficient in artificial intelligence, is set to revolutionize sectors such as agriculture and exports.
Youthful Population and Digital Potential
“Sixty percent of our population comprises young individuals brimming with talent,” he noted, adding that their digital capabilities are already boosting the national economy both domestically and internationally. “In March alone, overseas Pakistanis contributed a record-breaking $4.1 billion in remittances,” he added.
He further elaborated that a vital collaboration with Chinese tech giant Huawei is currently providing training to 200,000 students annually in cutting-edge technologies, and investors from across the globe – including North America – are being encouraged to participate actively.
Sharif referenced his past accomplishments, mentioning the distribution of 400,000 laptops to students during his tenure as Chief Minister of Punjab.
With backing from the World Bank, he added, Pakistan’s rural economy is undergoing digitization, and the country is progressing with Safe City projects, IT parks, and AI training centers.
In addition to acknowledging pledges totaling $700 million, the prime minister specifically recognized a Pakistani entrepreneur who, alongside a Russian counterpart, recently revealed a substantial $500 million investment in Pakistan’s economy.
“We’re not merely constructing a digital economy – we’re forging a digital Pakistan. From transforming agriculture via AI to augmenting exports through advanced technologies, this is the opportune moment for global investors to collaborate with us,” Sharif stated, inviting global participation in investment, guidance, and growth alongside Pakistan.
Deemah AlYahya, Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization, commended Pakistan’s endeavors. “This marks a momentous occasion where ambition, innovation, and opportunity converge. Digital transformation is now a revolution, not merely a trend,” she remarked, highlighting the country’s 142 million broadband subscribers, 65 percent smartphone adoption rate, and projected IT exports exceeding $4 billion.
Sharif acknowledged Deemah AlYahya, Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization, and other distinguished attendees, inviting them to become partners in modernizing various sectors, spanning from agriculture to exports and industrial innovation.
Reaffirming his dedication to realizing these technological ambitions, the prime minister asserted: “Through unwavering commitment, Pakistan will secure its rightful position on the global IT landscape.”
