Archer Set for Test Return Against India
England fast bowler Jofra Archer is poised to make his comeback to Test cricket in the third Test match against India, scheduled to commence on July 10 at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
Reportedly, England has formally requested that the pitch at Lord’s offer more pace, as they aim to recover from their recent defeat at Edgbaston. The anticipated inclusion of Archer, along with fellow fast bowler Gus Atkinson, is expected to significantly reinforce England’s bowling capabilities.
Head coach Brendon McCullum addressed the media ahead of the third Test, confirming Archer’s full fitness and likelihood of being selected for the playing XI.
McCullum’s Statement
“He will definitely be considered for selection. Jofra appears fit, strong, and prepared. It’s incredibly exciting to have him available again. We are well aware of his potential in Test cricket,” McCullum stated.
Archer, whose Test career began at Lord’s in 2019, has been absent from the format since February 2021 due to several elbow and back injuries.
McCullum also verified that the team has asked the ground staff at Lord’s for a more lively pitch.
Hopes for the Pitch
“Regardless, it should be a great contest, but it has the potential to be outstanding, particularly if the pitch offers some life,” he commented.
Atkinson, who sustained a hamstring injury during England’s recent series against Zimbabwe, has also rejoined the squad following an extended recovery period.
“We need to assess Gus carefully. The bowlers have faced a significant workload, and we will make our decisions once we have a clearer understanding of their recovery status,” McCullum concluded.
