Messi Expected to Return Against L.A. Galaxy After Injury

Lionel Messi is anticipated to make his comeback from a thigh injury in the upcoming match against L.A. Galaxy this Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This confirmation comes directly from head coach Javier Mascherano.

Messi has been sidelined for Miami’s previous two games due to what was described as a minor thigh issue. However, he rejoined the team for training sessions this Wednesday.

The injury occurred during Miami’s Leagues Cup game against Necaxa on August 2. Messi was injured in the 11th minute following a collision.

Miami, currently holding a record of 12-5-6 with 42 points, recently experienced a significant setback with a 4-1 defeat against Orlando City. Messi’s return could provide a crucial boost as they aim to recover.

Mascherano noted that Messi has been training without issues since Wednesday and is expected to be available for selection on Saturday, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

“Leo is fine. He’s been training with the squad since Wednesday,” Mascherano stated. “We anticipate that he will be included in the squad for tomorrow’s match, provided there are no setbacks during today’s training.”

Miami’s performance will also rely on goalkeeper Oscar Ustari, who made his return from an injury against Orlando. This week, the team traded Drake Callender to Charlotte FC. Callender participated in only three games this season after recovering from sports hernia surgery.

“I wish him success in this new chapter. I understand this year has been challenging for him because of the injuries and the surgery,” Inter Miami midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi said regarding Callender’s departure.
