Tatum Injured as Celtics Fall to Knicks

NEW YORK: During the fourth quarter of Game 4 in the NBA Eastern Conference semi-final series against the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum sustained an ankle injury.

The Celtics were defeated with a score of 121-113 at Madison Square Garden on Monday.

Late in the fourth quarter, Tatum went down clutching his ankle and immediately requested a timeout. Trainers assisted him and helped him off the court.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla stated after the game that it was a lower-body injury and that Tatum is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

Despite his strong individual performances, Tatum has been criticized for not leading the team to wins during the series. However, in Game 4, he scored 42 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out four assists.

Veteran teammate Al Horford voiced his concern for Tatum.

Horford’s Statement

“It’s very concerning because of the care that I have for him and what he means to us and to Boston. It’s tough for us and even tougher for him right now. We will see what happens. It’s very tough for our group.”

Despite Tatum’s efforts, the Celtics were unable to secure a victory. Knicks star Jalen Brunson led New York with 39 points and 12 assists to secure the win.

The Celtics are now trailing 3-1 in the series. Historically, coming back from such a deficit is challenging. Only a handful of teams have achieved it, including the Denver Nuggets, who accomplished it twice in the 2020 playoffs.
