Kyrgios Withdraws from Wimbledon Due to Knee Injury
Nick Kyrgios has announced his withdrawal from Wimbledon, citing a setback in his recovery from a knee injury. The Australian tennis star confirmed the news on Tuesday.
Since his defeat by Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final, Kyrgios has been plagued by a series of injuries affecting his foot, knee, and wrist. This season, he has participated in only four singles matches.
Kyrgios secured his first singles victory since 2022 at the Miami Open in March but had to withdraw from the French Open because of his ongoing knee problems.
He shared an update on his injury via Instagram, announcing his absence from the upcoming grass season and Wimbledon.
“I’ve experienced a slight setback during my recovery, and unfortunately, I won’t be able to return for the grass season this year,” Kyrgios stated on Instagram.
“I understand how much you were looking forward to seeing me compete, and I sincerely apologize for any disappointment. However, this is merely a temporary obstacle, and I am already committed to working diligently to come back stronger,” he added.
In 2022, Kyrgios displayed considerable promise, reaching the Wimbledon men’s singles final and later advancing to the US Open quarterfinals. However, he has made only one Grand Slam appearance since then.
He was eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open in January by Jacob Fearnley of Great Britain and suggested that it might be his last match in Melbourne.
Since the conclusion of 2022, Kyrgios has played in just six matches, achieving a single win against Mackenzie McDonald in the first round of the Miami Open.
