Rana Sanaullah, an adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, stated that former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, can be moved to a hospital if a court issues such an order. Sanaullah mentioned that a medical team has examined Khan twice in jail and suggested that if the PTI party is dissatisfied with the treatment, they should appeal to the Supreme Court.
This statement follows Khan’s second eye injection at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad. He was diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a condition affecting his right eye, with reports indicating a significant loss of vision. Doctors have prescribed three injections for his eye care, with the third scheduled for March 23.
Sanaullah also addressed concerns about Khan’s health, attributing rumors of his poor condition to a restriction on meetings with party leaders and family due to alleged jail rule violations. He confirmed that a meeting between Khan and his sister was arranged to allay these concerns.
He emphasized that the satisfaction of the family or party is separate from legal procedures and accused the PTI leadership of attempting to politicize Khan’s health issues. Sanaullah questioned who would be accountable if doctors made inappropriate statements after being allowed to meet Khan.
Drawing a parallel, Sanaullah recalled that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif was permitted to travel abroad for heart treatment after fulfilling all legal requirements and assurances to the court.
Responding to Sanaullah, PTI’s parliamentary leader Shahid Khattak urged the government to transfer Khan to a hospital for examination in the presence of his personal physician and with a family member present. Khattak questioned the secrecy surrounding Khan’s treatment and threatened protests if concerns were not addressed. He assured that if allowed, Khan’s personal physician would refrain from making any public statements.
