Streamlining Drug Imports: ICCI, PSW, and DRAP Lead the Way
In a major step toward modernizing Pakistan’s pharmaceutical trade, the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Pakistan Single Window (PSW), and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) jointly hosted an awareness session focused on improving drug import procedures.
Held in Islamabad, the session introduced the Pre-Import Release Order (PIRO) system, a digital workflow designed to simplify and accelerate the clearance of imported drugs and raw materials. Led by the PSW team, the event highlighted how the integration of DRAP’s Clearance Gateway with the PSW platform is transforming the pharmaceutical import landscape.
Director DRAP Zeshan Nazir Bajar showcased the benefits of the new system, emphasizing its speed, transparency, and reliability. Importers can now apply for release orders online, submit digital applications, make payments electronically, and track their requests in real time—all through the PSW portal.
The initiative aims to reduce delays, eliminate manual paperwork, and foster better coordination between traders and regulators. By digitizing the process, Pakistan is moving toward a more compliant and competitive pharmaceutical trade ecosystem.
ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood praised the reform, calling it a milestone in Pakistan’s trade facilitation efforts. He noted that the pharmaceutical industry is not just a business sector but a strategic pillar of public health and economic growth. Streamlining its import mechanisms will enhance compliance, reduce port delays, and promote a safer marketplace.
The awareness session reflects a broader push for technology-driven reforms across Pakistan’s trade infrastructure. With PSW and DRAP leading the charge, the country is embracing digital transformation to support business efficiency and regulatory transparency.
As Pakistan continues to modernize its trade systems, initiatives like PIRO signal a promising future for the pharmaceutical sector and beyond.
