According to preliminary and unofficial results, Hina Arshad Warraich, representing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), emerged victorious in the PP-55 Sialkot constituency by-elections. She secured 78,419 votes.
Fakhir Nishat Ghumman, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed contender, finished as the runner-up with 40,037 votes, based on unofficial tallies from all 185 polling stations.
The voting process took place from 8 am to 5 pm for the provincial assembly seat PP-52 in Sambrial. Reports indicated a tumultuous day with instances of heated exchanges and slogan shouting among party activists, along with claims of electoral manipulation.
PMLN’s Hina Arshad conveyed that her election was due to her commitment to public service rather than political maneuvering. She credited Maryam Nawaz for her position, stating that the Punjab Chief Minister’s confidence was crucial to her candidacy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz extended their congratulations to Warraich on her win.
CM Maryam affirmed that she would honor the confidence that the residents of Sambrial have placed in her party.
She emphasized that the PMLN’s triumph reflects the populace’s endorsement of the government’s strategies. She added that citizens can distinguish between individuals dedicated to service and those causing discord and disruption.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram voiced accusations of orchestrated rigging in PP-52, Sambrial. He asserted that despite these alleged irregularities, his party would prevent any further attempts to undermine the electoral mandate in the constituency, maintaining that PTI was still in the lead.
During a press briefing, he stated that the voters within this Sialkot constituency support PTI.
Akram noted that PTI had previously won this seat on February 8 and asserted the party’s ongoing lead. He pledged to prevent any future attempts to steal the mandate, stating that the public had come out in large numbers since morning, but PML-N members were resorting to disruptive behavior.
