Hearn Suggests Joshua Could Return to the Ring in September

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn recently provided an update regarding Anthony Joshua’s return to boxing after his elbow surgery.

Joshua, who previously confirmed his intention to box again in December 2025, hasn’t competed since his loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024, where he suffered an injury.

The British boxer initially aimed for a summer comeback, but the elbow injury disrupted those plans. Following successful surgery, Hearn now indicates that Joshua is likely to return to action towards the end of the year.

“He underwent the operation, which was successful, and he is now in the rehabilitation phase,” Hearn stated.

“I anticipate he will be able to resume punching in approximately six weeks, which positions him for a fight in September, October, or November. This timeline allows us to observe the Dubois versus Usyk fight and assess Fury’s potential return, among other possibilities. He is committed to fighting this year.” Hearn concluded.

Tyson Fury announced his retirement for the fifth time in January, after his second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.

Joshua remains interested in a potential fight against Fury, a matchup that has been discussed for several years.

However, Fury’s social media announcement of his retirement dampened these hopes, as he stated his contentment with retirement and expressed no intention to return to boxing.

Despite Fury’s statements, Joshua remains optimistic. He shared an image of Fury in the ring on social media, captioning it:

“One of these days it’ll be me standing in the opposite corner, ready and fully charged spiritually,” Joshua wrote.
