CLEVELAND: In a remarkable display, Tyrese Haliburton shone brightly, propelling the Indiana Pacers to a 121-112 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference semifinal series held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Sunday.

The Pacers’ playmaker amassed 22 points, distributed 13 assists, and grabbed three rebounds, while also contributing defensively. Andrew Nembhard scored a team-leading 23 points and provided six assists in the impressive away triumph.

Indiana seized the initiative early, concluding the first quarter with a significant 36-25 advantage. The Cavaliers countered in the subsequent quarter, reducing the deficit to six points at the half.

The Pacers commenced the third quarter with renewed vigor, extending their lead to 12 points. However, Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell responded with an impressive 17-4 surge, narrowing the gap to a mere two points as they entered the final quarter.

In a contest characterized by shifting momentum, the Pacers ultimately prevailed. Nembhard connected on consecutive three-pointers, igniting a crucial 13-2 run, thus providing Indiana with the advantage in the final minutes.

The Pacers concluded the game with a 20-10 run, securing the nine-point victory and establishing a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Haliburton, recognized as the game’s most valuable player, stated that the win provided a significant morale boost for the team.

“We’re definitely the heavy underdog, but we’re trying to manage what we are able to,” Haliburton commented. “It provides us with substantial momentum for certain, but this is the premier team in our conference. They rarely lose.”
