Haliburton Lauds Toppin’s Impact on Pacers

After witnessing Obi Toppin’s performance in Game 3 of the NBA Finals versus the Oklahoma City Thunder, Tyrese Haliburton commended him, deeming him a ‘perfect fit’ for the Indiana Pacers.

The Pacers’ reserves were instrumental in Game 3, aiding the team in regaining a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-seven series on Wednesday.

Bennedict Mathurin, Obi Toppin, and TJ McConnell, all Pacers bench players, contributed 27, eight, and 10 points, respectively.

While the statistics suggest Mathurin was the most impactful reserve player in the game, Haliburton supports Obi Toppin as an ideal player for the Pacers.

Comments from Haliburton

“He consistently injects pace into the game, rapidly advancing up the court, and we’re finding him ahead. He excelled today in making sound decisions. His crucial tip-in dunk provided a massive energy boost for the arena,” Haliburton stated.

Toppin’s standout performance against the Thunder in the fourth quarter was vital, assisting the Pacers in establishing a seven-point lead.

Haliburton believes Toppin’s style of play aligns seamlessly with the team’s strategy.

“He is an ideal match for our system, and upon acquiring him through trade, I was extremely enthusiastic, not only due to our existing relationship but also due to the significant contributions he can make to this team,” Haliburton added.

“He will undoubtedly maintain this level of performance. He was immensely valuable. Our bench, as a whole, performed exceptionally well tonight, and we require this consistency,” he concluded.

The Indiana Pacers secured Toppin from the New York Knicks in exchange for two second-round draft choices.

Following his productive season, Toppin agreed to a contract extension until 2028 for $60 million on July 20.
