Gujarat Titans Acquire Dasun Shanaka Following Phillips’ Injury
The Gujarat Titans (GT) have officially announced the signing of Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for Glenn Phillips, who sustained an injury, for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Shanaka, who previously wore the GT jersey in 2023, is set to join the squad for a sum of INR 75 lakh, which is approximately USD 87,800.
Phillips suffered a groin injury while fielding in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad more than a week ago. This injury has resulted in his withdrawal from the tournament, and he is returning to New Zealand to begin his recovery.
Shanaka’s IPL experience is limited; he has participated in only one season with GT. During that time, he played in three matches and managed to score 26 runs without being called upon to bowl.
In addition to the setback with Phillips, GT also experienced the departure of South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who left on April 3 due to what the franchise termed “an important personal matter.” The team has not yet confirmed whether or when Rabada will rejoin the squad.
Currently, GT holds the second position in the IPL 2025 standings, having secured victories in four of their six matches. Their upcoming match is scheduled against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at their home ground on Saturday.
