Cameron Green Details Dietary Management for Kidney Condition

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has provided details regarding the dietary adjustments he makes to cope with his ongoing kidney issue, emphasizing the need for ‘smart choices’.

Green, who publicly disclosed his condition in December 2023, has been sidelined since the conclusion of Australia’s tour to England for white-ball cricket in September of the previous year.

The 25-year-old sportsman underwent surgery to repair a back injury, which has kept him off the field since that time.

Green is currently striving to rejoin the national squad, bolstered by an upcoming five-game stint in the County Championship with Gloucestershire.

In a recent discussion with a British news outlet, Green elucidated the specifics of his health issue, the obstacles it presents to his professional life, and his strategies for maintaining a balance between health and athletic pursuits.

“My kidney function will not improve. However, I can decelerate the deterioration. It doesn’t prevent me from living a full life – I simply have to be selective,” Green commented.

The 25-year-old athlete added, “Maintaining healthy eating habits is simpler at home. It’s more challenging to locate suitable kidney-friendly foods when I’m travelling for cricket.”

“This poses a challenge while participating in cricket practically constantly for 10 months annually across various nations.”

“Everyone experiences hidden health challenges. For me, it involves consistently making informed decisions to effectively manage my condition.”

Cameron Green further revealed that he collaborated with a chef during his time in India for the Indian Premier League (IPL) to design his diet, which has proven to be ‘very effective’.

“During my stint in the IPL last year, I collaborated with a chef,” Green stated.

“We created a diet plan featuring four nutritious options, including spaghetti, chicken dishes, rice, and poke bowls. This approach has been quite beneficial for me.”

“They won’t get better on their own, but with proper care, the progression can be slowed. If I stay disciplined with my management, it shouldn’t affect my career.”
