Green Opts for Sheffield Shield to Resume Bowling
MACKAY: Australian all-rounder Cameron Green disclosed on Thursday his plans to make his return to bowling in the Sheffield Shield tournament, instead of participating in the forthcoming limited-overs series against India. This decision is geared towards preparing him for potential bowling duties in The Ashes series later in the year.
Following a successful back operation in October of the previous year, Green has been absent from international cricket as a bowler, participating solely as a specialist batter across all formats of the game.
Speaking with journalists before the second ODI against South Africa in the three-match series, Green outlined his strategy for his bowling comeback and managing his physical workload.
“In the past, concentrating on Shield cricket proved beneficial,” Green told reporters. “Therefore, focusing on that avenue, particularly while rebuilding my bowling strength, might be the optimal approach. Accumulating more overs across several days could be the most effective method.”
The 26-year-old expressed uncertainty regarding the specific match in which he will resume bowling but conveyed optimism about his progress.
“I am currently unsure about the exact match for my return to bowling, but I am feeling very good and in a positive state. It is exciting to be bowling again with considerable intensity,” Green stated.
“It has been a lengthy recovery,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that Cameron Green’s return to bowling would be a significant advantage for Australia. He has secured 18 wickets in only eight matches against their primary rivals, maintaining an average of 24.44, which is notably better than his overall career average of 35.31.
