Gillespie Lauds Haris’s Energetic Approach
Former Pakistan red-ball coach Jason Gillespie has lauded Mohammad Haris, identifying him as a vital component for Pakistan’s future in white-ball cricket under the guidance of new head coach Mike Hesson.
In a recent discussion, Gillespie emphasized Haris’s spirited and positive attitude, noting that he embodies the type of player Pakistan requires in the shorter game format. He also voiced his enthusiasm for Haris’s inclusion in the national team.
“I was particularly thrilled with the selection of Mohammad Haris. I believe he brings the exact character and disposition that the Pakistan team needs. He is a very optimistic person, always engaged and full of energy—which is essential for Pakistan in the short-format arena. I was very happy when that decision was made,” Gillespie stated.
However, the former Australian pace bowler also advised caution, urging both Haris and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to maintain patience through the inevitable peaks and valleys of a young player’s development.
“He’s a young player, so he will experience periods of great success and, perhaps, some less successful times. However, I believe that if such players are shown patience, that patience will be greatly rewarded,” he commented.
Haris has undoubtedly justified this confidence with his recent displays. Given consistent opportunities by Mike Hesson, the right-handed batsman has made an impact with his bold style and commanding hitting.
Despite significant competition from players like Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman, Haris has solidified his position at number three in the batting lineup.
In the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, Haris made a significant impression, accumulating 179 runs with a striking strike rate. His most notable performance was in the final T20I, where he struck an undefeated 107, securing a series victory for Pakistan against the hosts.
Pakistan is likely to play Bangladesh again in a three-match T20I series in July, based on a proposal from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), though official confirmation is still pending.
Following this, the team, potentially led by Salman Ali Agha, is scheduled to tour the USA in August for a series of three ODI and T20I matches against the West Indies.
