Trilateral Talks in Kabul: Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China to Meet
Islamabad: On August 20, Kabul will host a trilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China, according to sources.
The assembly will include China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
Sources indicate the agenda will cover discussions on collaborative counterterrorism measures and the broadening scope of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Earlier in August, Afghanistan’s Interim Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi had planned a visit to Pakistan on August 5. However, both countries later released statements attributing the cancellation to “technical” issues.
Subsequent information revealed that the UN Security Council had not authorized the visit, as Muttaqi is still listed among UN-designated Taliban members.
Following the meeting in Kabul, the Chinese foreign minister is anticipated to proceed to Pakistan the following day, the sources added.
