Giants Secure Comeback Victory Over Brewers
SAN FRANCISCO: A timely RBI double off the bat of Wilmer Flores in the seventh inning propelled the San Francisco Giants to a 5-3 comeback triumph against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night at Oracle Park.
Flores, a reliable presence in the Giants’ batting order this year, broke a 3-3 deadlock with a two-out hit to left-center, driving in what proved to be the winning run. His crucial hit sparked a late surge, with San Francisco adding two insurance runs in the eighth to cement the victory.
“It’s a great feeling to contribute to the team’s success,” Flores expressed after the game. “We maintained our composure, and once we got to their bullpen, we capitalized on the opportunities.”
Giants pitcher Logan Webb persevered through six innings, conceding three runs on seven hits while recording five strikeouts. The bullpen unit, consisting of Tyler Rogers, Taylor Rogers, and closer Camilo Doval, secured the win in the closing innings, with Doval earning his sixth save of the season.
Milwaukee initiated the scoring in the second inning when rookie Caleb Durbin blasted his first major league home run—a two-run shot to left field.
The Giants responded, scoring once in the second with Patrick Bailey’s RBI single and again in the fifth when a throwing error by Brewers second baseman Brice Turang tied the score.
Jung Hoo Lee contributed an RBI triple in the seventh, and San Francisco added another run in the eighth thanks to a double-play groundout.
Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta struck out eight over five innings but was charged with three earned runs in the defeat. Christian Yelich led Milwaukee’s offense with two hits and an RBI.
“We’ve been working hard,” stated Giants manager Bob Melvin. “Flores continues to provide a spark, and the bullpen performed admirably. This was a solid team effort.”
The victory provides San Francisco with momentum as they head into Game 2 of the series Tuesday night at Oracle Park.
