Pakistan Appoints First Female Coach for National Women’s Baseball Team
The Pakistan Baseball Federation (PBF) made history on Sunday by appointing a female coach to lead the national women’s baseball team for the first time.
Minahil Ahmed has officially joined the coaching staff and will oversee the team’s preparation for the forthcoming Asian Women’s Baseball Cup, which is slated to be held in China this October.
Minahil is a Level one certified baseball coach, bringing a wealth of experience to the position. She previously coached the HEC Women’s Baseball Team and is currently the head coach of the Lahore College for Women University’s baseball team.
An accomplished player in her own right, Minahil has captained the Pakistan Women’s Baseball Team and has twice represented her country at the Women’s Asian Baseball Championship.
The PFB has also enlisted the expertise of Japanese coach Kazuto Nonaka for the men’s team to aid in their preparations for the upcoming Asian Baseball Championship.
Since May, Nonaka has been working with two of Pakistan’s most promising players, Faisal Hayat and Musharraf, as part of a specialized training program in Japan.
Sarfraz Ahmed was also appointed as the fielding coach for the Pakistan baseball team on Wednesday.
His initial assignment will be the Asian Baseball Championship, scheduled to take place in China from September 22 to 28.
Fakhar Ali Shah, the Secretary of the Pakistan Baseball Federation, has verified the appointment of Sarfraz Ahmed, stating that the coaching staff is now fully assembled.
The Asian Baseball Championship is scheduled in China from September 22 to 28.
Additionally, the PFB has named national team player Alex Khan as the head coach for the Pakistan Under-18 team for the U-18 World Cup qualifiers in 2026.
Alex, who has also played as a pitcher for the senior team, represented Pakistan at the 2022 World Baseball Classic and is also a part of the squad for this year’s Asian Championship.
