In a significant move to enhance law and order in Balochistan, the federal and provincial governments have agreed on a phased deployment of the Federal Constabulary. This decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta. The meeting saw the participation of senior officials from various federal and provincial agencies.

The deployment will be implemented in stages, beginning with two wings of the Federal Constabulary. Ultimately, approximately 3,000 personnel are expected to be stationed in sensitive areas across the province to strengthen security measures. The Federal Constabulary, previously known as the Frontier Constabulary, underwent a structural reorganization in 2025. While operating under the federal government, it provides security and administrative support nationwide, with operational powers determined by the provinces utilizing its services, though overall command remains federal.

Both the federal and provincial governments reiterated their dedication to fostering lasting peace in Balochistan through collaborative efforts, robust law enforcement, and improved inter-agency cooperation. Briefings were provided by heads of key organizations including Nadra, FIA, NCCIA, and the Federal Constabulary, who outlined their ongoing initiatives to combat illegal activities, enhance institutional capabilities, and promote stability.

The discussions also covered critical issues such as the repatriation of Afghan refugees, dismantling hawala and hundi networks, curbing extortion and smuggling, and reinforcing the rule of law. To bolster the FIA’s effectiveness, it was agreed to fill all vacant positions with local recruits, creating employment opportunities and improving grassroots operational reach.

Furthermore, both governments pledged to intensify monitoring of anti-state activities on social media and expedite legal actions against those spreading propaganda. Minister Naqvi assured full federal backing in the fight against terrorism and pledged support for upgrading the Balochistan police’s professional capacity through modern training and resources. Chief Minister Bugti emphasized the provincial government’s firm commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring order, stating that upholding the state’s authority is paramount. He noted a significant improvement in public order, with highways no longer being blocked for protests.

Senior officials present included Mir Zia Langove, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hamza Shafqaat, Inspector General of Police Muhammad Tahir Khan, and Principal Secretary to the CM Imran Zarkoon. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the commitment by Minister Naqvi and CM Bugti to continued collaboration through a coordinated strategy to ensure enduring peace, reinforce state authority, and protect citizens’ lives and property.
