Sindh Assembly Reaffirms Crackdown on Drug Dealers

A crucial meeting of the Standing Committee on Home Affairs was held at the Sindh Assembly in Karachi, chaired by Faryal Talpur. The session focused on a six-point agenda, including arrests of drug mafia members, forensic lab performance, chemically adulterated milk investigations, land mafia cases, the proposal for a provincial cybercrime unit, and police operations in the katcha areas.

Addressing the committee, Faryal Talpur stressed that drug dealers are destroying the future of children and reiterated that the zero-tolerance policy must continue without compromise. She emphasized that strict crackdowns are essential to safeguard communities and ensure accountability.

On the issue of land grabbing, Talpur declared that land mafia activities are unacceptable anywhere in Sindh, urging that all committee recommendations and actions must strictly follow merit.

The proposal for a Provincial Cyber Crime Unit was also discussed. Talpur directed that any correspondence regarding the matter should be presented immediately so it can be taken up with the federal government for further action.

Expressing satisfaction over ongoing police operations in the katcha areas, she praised the performance of DIGs from Larkana and Sukkur, along with young officers, for their dedication. She also commended SSP Larkana for the encounter that led to the elimination of notorious dacoit Saathi Jatoi, and appreciated the efforts of SSP City in Karachi.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-Ul-Hassan Lanjar informed the committee that joint operations against drugs are underway across the province, involving collaboration between Sindh Police, the Excise Department, and the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).

The meeting reinforced Sindh’s commitment to tackling organized crime, ensuring that drug dealers, land mafia, and cyber threats are met with decisive action to protect public safety and uphold the rule of law.
