Fakhar Zaman Ruled Out of West Indies Series Due to Hamstring Strain

LAUDERHILL: Pakistan’s opening batsman, Fakhar Zaman, will miss the third T20I and the subsequent ODI series against the West Indies. This is due to a left hamstring strain he sustained during the second T20I match.

The injury occurred during the 19th over when Fakhar was fielding. Medical evaluation revealed a mild strain, and immediate treatment was administered by the team’s medical personnel.

The left-handed batter is scheduled to return to Pakistan on August 4, where he will begin his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, overseen by the PCB medical team.

In recent matches, Fakhar has struggled to maintain peak performance, recording scores of 1, 44, and 8 in three games against Bangladesh, followed by 28 and 20 in the initial two T20Is against the West Indies.

This recent setback is not the first for Fakhar. Earlier in the year, during Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener, he suffered an oblique injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the tournament.

Despite the discomfort experienced during his latest match, Fakhar continued to bat, scoring 24 runs from 41 deliveries before being dismissed by New Zealand’s Michael Bracewell.

The Event Technical Committee for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 has approved Imam-ul-Haq as the replacement for Fakhar Zaman in Pakistan’s squad.

Fakhar was previously excluded from both the ODI and T20I squads for the New Zealand series held in April.
