Hamilton Suggests Ferrari Might Need a Replacement

According to international reports, Johnny Herbert, a former F1 driver, speculates that Max Verstappen would likely decline an offer to join Ferrari as Lewis Hamilton’s successor.

The 2025 season has presented challenges for both F1 champions. Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari has yet to yield the desired results, with the British racer still seeking his first podium finish this season.

Adding to Hamilton’s concerns is the strong performance of his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc, who appears to be outperforming the British driver.

Nevertheless, Ferrari holds the second position in the team standings, trailing McLaren, whose superior performance remains unmatched this season.

Meanwhile, Verstappen, the reigning champion, is also facing difficulties. After 14 races, he trails championship leader Oscar Piastri (284) by a significant margin, with 187 points.

Following a disappointing 12th-place finish and qualifying result at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the British driver expressed his frustration, deeming himself ‘useless’ and suggesting to his Ferrari team that ‘they probably need a driver change.’

His outburst in the media has ignited discussions about his potential retirement. However, Herbert believes that even if that occurs, a partnership between Max Verstappen and Ferrari is unlikely.

Herbert stated, “I doubt Verstappen would come. Ferrari might consider a young talent (like Bearman, a Ferrari Driver Academy driver) or potentially bring Sainz back, considering reports suggest he’d always accept a call from Ferrari.”

He added, “While Sainz is facing more challenges than anticipated at Williams currently, he demonstrated significant strength at Ferrari, performing at a similar level to Leclerc. Ultimately, Sainz remains a young talent.”
