Akmal Credits Salman for Rescuing Team, Lauds Game Awareness

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal remarked that Pakistan’s triumph against Afghanistan in the tri-nation series marks a promising beginning ahead of the Asia Cup. He emphasized that Pakistan needs to secure such decisive victories against teams like Afghanistan to compete effectively against stronger opponents.

In a post-match discussion on his YouTube channel, Akmal commended Salman Ali Agha’s performance, highlighting his stabilizing role after an early collapse of the top order. He noted Salman’s pivotal contribution to the team’s success.

“Following the early dismissals of Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, and Hasan Nawaz, Pakistan faced considerable pressure and appeared to be struggling. However, Salman Ali Agha demonstrated exceptional batting skills, steering Pakistan back into contention, particularly during Rashid Khan’s over, exhibiting remarkable composure and bravery,” he stated.

Akmal also praised the leadership, emphasizing how Salman’s strategic batting and ability to exploit Rashid Khan’s less effective bowling spells provided a significant advantage.

“Salman played a crucial role in rescuing the team from a precarious situation, showcasing both game intelligence and maturity. He demonstrated that in contemporary cricket, even against teams with numerous high-caliber bowlers, a single poor over can dramatically shift the momentum,” Akmal added.

He also expressed disapproval of Saim and Fakhar’s shot selection, suggesting that their dismissals were a result of poorly executed strokes.

Akmal advised the pair to refine their shot selection and understand the importance of building momentum after scoring boundaries, rather than taking unnecessary risks.

“Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman were dismissed due to rash shots. Their choice of shots was questionable, and they need to improve in this area. However, Salman Ali Agha entered the middle order and delivered an outstanding innings,” he commented.

Akmal further stated that the victory over Afghanistan serves as an encouraging sign before the Asia Cup, indicating thorough preparation for the tournament. He conveyed his optimism for Pakistan’s continued success in the forthcoming matches.

“Pakistan has started well, and it’s evident that preparations for the Asia Cup are progressing as planned. We are hopeful to witness similar strong performances in the upcoming games,” Akmal concluded.
