Palmer Recognized as Chelsea’s Leading Goalscorer in 2024/25

According to international reports on Sunday, former Chelsea forward Pat Nevin believes it’s premature to draw comparisons between Cole Palmer and legendary players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Palmer has rapidly become a vital component of Chelsea’s squad. During his debut season, the English player secured the PFA Young Player of the Year award and topped Chelsea’s scoring charts for the 2024/25 season.

Nevin suggested that Palmer has the potential to emulate Zinedine Zidane, but equating him to Messi and Ronaldo at this stage is unwarranted.

“A year prior, comparing Cole Palmer to Zinedine Zidane seemed reasonable, but it didn’t last year. However, it could be appropriate again. He is undeniably a world-class talent, and still quite young. If you recall the Euros, much of the focus was on other players, and Cole appeared to be on the bench,” Nevin commented.

“He is performing at an elite level. Comparing anyone to Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi is unfair, but Palmer is approaching that next tier. I believe he is already close, but sustained performance over several years is necessary. Last year was certainly a significant one.”

Nevin further added that the addition of Estevao Willian and Jamie Gittens will contribute to Cole Palmer’s continued development.

“The players around him, Estevao and James Gittens, will assist him this season, likely making things easier for him and strengthening the team overall.”

Since joining Chelsea from Manchester City in September 2023, Palmer has recorded 43 goals and 29 assists across 97 appearances.
