Grealish Set to Join Everton for Match Against Leeds United on August 18
LIVERPOOL: Everton has successfully secured the services of English midfielder Jack Grealish from Manchester City on a season-long loan. The announcement was made jointly by both clubs on Tuesday.
Grealish, who made a high-profile move to City from Aston Villa for £100 million four years prior, experienced a reduction in his game time last season, fueling speculation about a transfer.
The international player for England only started seven games for City in the 2024/25 season and was conspicuously absent from the recent Club World Cup squad.
Everton’s manager, David Moyes, is known to be a strong admirer of Grealish, who will be celebrating his 30th birthday next month.
Reports indicate that Everton, after finishing 13th in the previous season, possesses an option to permanently acquire Grealish for 50 million pounds once the loan concludes.
Grealish’s current earnings are estimated to be 300,000 pounds per week.
Everton has also confirmed that Grealish will don the number 18 jersey, an honor previously held by club legends like Paul Gascoigne and Wayne Rooney.
In a released statement, Grealish expressed his enthusiasm about joining Everton, praising its stature and prestige.
“I’m very excited to have signed with Everton. This is a significant moment for me. This is a fantastic club, supported by incredible fans,” Grealish conveyed in his statement.
“After speaking with the manager, I immediately knew that this was the only place I wanted to be.”
The 29-year-old is focusing on the upcoming FIFA World Cup and requires consistent playing time. It’s worth noting that he was also not selected for England’s 2024 European Championship team.
Moyes commented on Grealish’s arrival, stating that he believes the timing of the transfer is ideal for both the player and the club.
“I believe we’re acquiring him at an opportune moment because he brings experience, a solid understanding of the Premier League, and a well-established track record of high-level performance,” Moyes remarked.
“I am aware of Jack’s aspiration to rejoin the England squad, and we hope to assist him in achieving that objective throughout the season.”
Grealish recorded 17 goals in 157 appearances for City. The former Aston Villa forward played a crucial role in the club’s Treble-winning season in 2023, significantly contributing to their triumphs in the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.
Grealish is expected to be available for selection in Everton’s opening Premier League match against Leeds United on August 18.
