Amir’s Superb Bowling Performance Guides Essex to Victory

CHELMSFORD: Mohammad Amir, the former Pakistani fast bowler, showcased his exceptional skills, spearheading Essex to a dominant six-wicket triumph against Sussex in their Vitality Blast encounter held in Chelmsford on Friday.

After winning the toss, Sussex skipper Tymal Mills elected to bat, a decision that proved detrimental as the team was bowled out for a mere 145 runs in 18.2 overs.

Wicketkeeper John Simpson was the top scorer, achieving an impressive 52 off just 28 deliveries, punctuated by four sixes and three boundaries.

Daniel Hughes also added a valuable 27 from 15 balls, which included one six and five fours.

Danny Lamb contributed 19 runs, while Tom Alsop and Harrison Ward managed 13 and nine runs respectively.

However, the remaining batters struggled, with seven Sussex players failing to reach double digits.

Essex’s bowling attack was highlighted by Mohammad Amir, who recorded outstanding figures of 3/16 in his three overs.

He received excellent support from Sam Cook, Shane Snater, and Simon Harmer, each claiming two wickets to dismantle the Sussex batting lineup.

In response, Essex comfortably chased down the target of 146 runs, reaching 150/4 in just 16.1 overs.

Opener Michael Pepper delivered a remarkable performance with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 87 off 47 balls, including two sixes and 14 fours in a commanding display.

He was well-supported by Luke Benkenstein (25) and Charlie Allison (24), while the other batters made minor contributions.

Although Paul Walter (five), Jordan Cox (four), and Matt Critchley (three) were dismissed cheaply, their departures had minimal impact on the result.

Sussex’s bowling efforts were spearheaded by Tymal Mills, who secured 2/31 in his four overs. Nathan Andrew and Henry Crocombe each took one wicket, but Essex sealed the victory with nearly four overs remaining.
