Ennis Set for Super Welterweight Debut Against Lima

PHILADELPHIA: Jaron Ennis, the former welterweight titleholder, is preparing to enter the super welterweight division. Matchroom Boxing revealed on Monday that Ennis will face Uisma Lima in a WBA title eliminator bout scheduled for October 11 at the Wells Fargo Centre.

Having previously secured the WBA and IBF welterweight titles with a sixth-round stoppage of Eimantas Stanionis in April, Ennis will now compete in a new weight class in his hometown instead of defending his previous titles.

Ennis’s decision to move up to 154 pounds follows a multi-year contract extension with Matchroom Boxing.

Ennis stated with confidence that he ranks among the world’s elite fighters, asserting that his opponents are unable to pose a threat to him. He affirmed his determination to continue his progression in the sport.

Ennis’s Remarks

“They are free to express their opinions, but it holds no significance for me. These competitors are beneath my level. I am the best globally, and they are aware of it. My ambition is to challenge all the significant figures and acquire every title available – the journey advances,” declared Ennis.

Lima, an Angolan boxer residing in Portugal, presents a formidable challenge. He is currently on a four-fight winning streak, with his most recent defeat occurring against Aaron McKenna in 2023 by way of a unanimous decision.

Lima conveyed his enthusiasm for what he considers the most important fight of his career, expressing self-belief and a determination to triumph over Ennis.

Lima’s Perspective

“I am greatly anticipating the most significant challenge of my career against a legitimate, world-class competitor in Ennis. I have faith in my abilities, and we are preparing for a fierce battle. Please do not underestimate me, Boots, because I am coming to secure a victory,” Lima stated.
