England to Face Sri Lanka in ODI and T20I Series
The England men’s cricket team is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka in early 2026 for a limited-overs series, as part of their preparations for the T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) officially announced the schedule on Wednesday. The tour includes three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) slated for January 22nd, 24th, and 27th, followed by three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) on January 30th, February 1st, and February 3rd. The specific venues for these matches are yet to be determined.
This series will provide England with essential preparation for the T20 World Cup, offering them crucial experience in subcontinent conditions.
England, who secured the T20 World Cup title in 2010 and 2022, will be aiming for their third championship after their semi-final exit in the previous tournament held in the West Indies and the USA.
Notably, this marks England’s first white-ball tour to Sri Lanka in over seven years, their last visit being in 2018 where they won the ODI series 3-1 and the solitary T20I.
The two teams last competed in a T20I during the 2022 T20 World Cup, where England secured a four-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in the group stage, eventually progressing to win the tournament.
It is important to note that England has a busy schedule planned for the 2025 season. They will tour South Africa from September 2nd to 14th for a limited-overs series consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is.
Following their tour of South Africa, the team will travel to Ireland for a three-match T20I series from September 17th to 21st, before heading to New Zealand for another series featuring three ODIs and three T20Is from October 18th to November 1st.
England will conclude the year with a five-match Ashes Test series in Australia, which forms part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27, scheduled from November 21st, 2025, to January 8th, 2026.
