Heatwave Alert Issued for Eid ul Adha Holidays

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has cautioned about a significant heatwave impacting most regions of the nation during the Eid ul Adha holidays and the subsequent week.

According to the PMD’s statement, a high-pressure system is anticipated to form over the country around June 7, extending its influence across numerous areas starting June 8, resulting in a considerable increase in daytime temperatures.

Day temperatures are projected to surge by 5-7C above the typical range in the northern parts of the country, which includes central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, from June 7-12.

In the southern regions, encompassing upper and central Sindh, southern Punjab, and sections of Balochistan, temperatures will likely remain 4-6C higher than normal during the same timeframe.

Dust storms and strong winds are also expected in the plains due to intense surface heating.

The PMD has advised the public, particularly children, older individuals, and women, to limit exposure to the sun and maintain adequate hydration.

Citizens are encouraged to adopt all essential precautions to prevent heat-related ailments.

Elevated temperatures in the northern territories may accelerate snow melting, potentially affecting river water levels. Authorities have recommended the careful management of water resources and urged farmers to adjust their agricultural activities in accordance with the weather forecast.

All relevant departments have been instructed to maintain vigilance and implement necessary measures to lessen potential risks during this intense heatwave.

The PMD also advised consistently monitoring official weather updates for the most up-to-date information and safety guidelines.
